Vision
To enrich and touch the lives of 10,000 hearing and speech impaired
children by the end of this decade, and to make them economically
self-reliant and contributing members in society.
The Organization
DEEDS stands for Development, Education, Empowerment of the Disadvantaged
in Society. The organization was established in 2003, and is committed
to helping hearing and speech impaired children.
It began as a mission of 10 friends who set out to empower children
who are handicapped and to help them become contributing members
in society. Today, the people who are behind DEEDS are all like-minded
people with a mission, mainly committed to providing a platform
for these children and work towards their progress and employment.
At
present, DEEDS endeavors to play a more active role in reaching
out to the marginalized by helping fund deserving projects and
ensuring that there is a better future for the under privileged.
The focus of DEEDS is to provide support in more ways than one
to NGO's that work with the hearing impaired in Mumbai. There
are 19 such organizations in Mumbai and 31 in Maharashtra. One of its main projects is Bajaj Institute
of Learning (BIL) in Dehradun.
DEEDS also takes care of the mental and physical health of these
handicapped children. In addition to checking the levels of hearing
impairment, the child also undergoes regular medical check-ups.
