In its mission to alleviate the suffering of the hearing handicapped and others with related problems, DEEDS has been working with other NGOs in order to reach out to a wider base.

A project that DEEDS offers its support is the Bajaj Institute of Learning (BIL), which runs an accredited National Open School in Dehradun for the hearing and speech handicapped persons. BIL seeks to empower the hearing and speech handicapped students by offering education and vocational training free of cost. The School has classes up to Std X, and special vocational training courses in computers, tailoring and electrical. BIL was recently conferred the title of Resource Center for the Deaf in the State of Uttaranchal, India.

DEEDS is also offering its support to Impact India Foundation, which is an NGO that is focusing on reducing by one-half disability incidences. It also seeks to reverse by one half existing disabilities over a 3 year period in three areas of the country, each of which has a population of one million in 3 separate states which totally accounts for 3 million. This will be achieved by mapping out three levels 1) early identification of hearing handicap 2) at the school level 3) at the adult level. The three stages involved would be identification, treatment and rehabilitation. This would include providing job opportunities and placements to make them self-reliant.

  • DEEDS would like to conduct its own outreach programs in and around Uttaranchal and for this it needs a mini Bus that costs around 6 lacs. And the operating cost would be around Rs 18000 a month.
  • A similar bus/van is required for programs in Mumbai.
  • A hostel needs to be set up for 100 students at the Bajaj Institute of Learning, Dehradun. The total cost amounts to Rs 72 lacs and the operating cost Rs 2 lacs a month.
  • An Audio-Visual Room needs to be set up complete with an LCD Projector, TV Set and VCR. The total cost would amount to Rs 1,50, 000 and the cost for running the project per month Rs 15,000.
